Founded in 1987, the Baltimore Child Abuse Center (BCAC) evaluates and treats more than 800 Baltimore City children a year who have reported being sexually abused, provides resources for their families, and conducts community programs aimed at preventing child sexual abuse. BCAC was been designated by the Baltimore City Department of Social Services, the Baltimore Police Department, and the Baltimore City State's Attorney's Office as the primary center for all investigations of child sexual abuse that occur in the City of Baltimore. The work and efficiency of BCAC has dramatically reduced the time for investigations from 15 to 30 days to 1 to 7 and thus makes the lives of affected families easier and ensures that sexually abused children receive the treatment they need to recover from the abuse.
