Maine Trek
Taking on the challenge of a lifetime, Tom Tieman will kayak more than 350 miles along the
Maine
Island trail to honor the legacy of his sister-in-law and to inspire his co-worker’s continued fight against brain cancer.
The
Maine resident, having constructed his own pedal power kayak, is no stranger to such adventurous exploits; after he graduated high school in 1976 he tackled a 750 mile solo cycling trek. “The two week trip permanently whetted my appetite for adventure.” Since then Tom hasn’t looked back, completing numerous excursions around the country.
Tom is taking on this challenge “to honor the legacy of his sister-in-law and to help those, like my co-worker Frank, who confront the effects of this a brain tumor everyday.” It is his hope that the journey will raise awareness and $10,000 in donations in support of the National Brain Tumor Foundation (NBTF).
