TJ RUNS FOR KIDS
For the eighth consecutive year I will be running an 8K route to raise money for Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. This year I am running for a Children's Champion named Alain Petit of Green Bay who is eleven (11) years old.
Alain was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes when he was seven (7) years old. Having this disease means that part of his body, called the pancreas, doesn't make enough insulin anymore. Because of this he gets to much sugar in his blood.
When he was nine (9) years old he began using an insulin pump which is attached to a tube in his stomach. He receives insulin from this pump every three (3) minutes. Because of this new pump he no longer has to give himself shots, but he must insert a new tube into his stomach every three (3) days. Along with that he must prick his finger and test his blood each time he wants to eat. Since he was diagnosed he has pricked his finger over 5500 times.
Diabetes is a terrible disease. Did you know that a person is diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes every three (3) minutes. That means two (2) or three (3) more people were diagnosed with it just in the time it took you to read this letter. It would be great to find a cure.
Your pledge dollars will be instrumental in allowing Children's Hospital of Wisconsin to continue their research and fund community education programs about Juvenile Diabetes. This will help many sick children throughout the State of Wisconsin and the UP of Michigan. Last year, more than 105 children from the Brown County area alone were treated as inpatients at Children's Hospital. One hundred percent of the funds raised through your generous gift directly benefit these kids. Pledges must be collected and turned in prior to September 25th, 2004.
If I can be of assistance or if you have any questions please contact me at (920) 330-0220. So I ask you - please support me as I run for Alain and together
