Thank you for visiting our family's fundraising page!

This is the 4th year that we are involved in the Autism Walk-A-Thon, but my first as Executive Director of the Autism Society of Oregon. With two wonderful children on the autism spectrum, this is a cause that Dale and I are passionate about.

I became involved with ASO as a volunteer 3 years ago because its mission resonated with me. ASO works to improve the lives of everyone affected by autism through support and information. People on the autism spectrum need information, support and education, both now and throughout their lifespan, to help them lead meaningful and fulfilling lives. Family members and caregivers also need help and support. And, this is what ASO focuses on.

Some of ASO's activities, supported by the Walk-A-Thon, include:

* Workshop Series. Monthly events on different topics of interest held in locations throughout Oregon. In April, we are hosting a presentation on "Autism & the Brain" about the neuroscience of autism. In May, we are hosting a presentation on Housing Options in Bend, and on Transition Planning in Medford.

* Take-A-Break on ASO. This extremely popular state-wide program provides parents and caregivers with a gift card to a local restaurant, movie passes and an evening of respite care so that parents can have an evening out to relax and recharge.

* Support Groups/On-line Chat Groups/Game Club. Thanks to the efforts of our dedicated volunteers, ASO sponsors support groups for children, teens and young adults on the autism spectrum, as well as for parents and for siblings. Our Game Club in Forest Grove allows the whole family to have fun.

As Executive Director, my goals are to continue and improve upon these programs, and many others.

As a family, our goals are to raise children who will be reasonably happy and reasonably productive adults. For Willie, giving him access to an education that stimulates his quirky interests and creativity, is the best way to help him learn and grow. For Jakey, it's more complicated. Given how severely he is affected by autism, he needs intensive therapies to learn how to function in the most basic ways and will continue to need support throughout his life. It is through our work with ASO that we hope to provide this for him, and everyone else on the autism spectrum.

Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support our fundraising efforts.

Many thanks for your support -- and please don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
