A few years ago both Tara and I were regular volunteers for the Vermont chapter of the Make-a-Wish Foundation. We assisted with events and were trained on how to be wish granters. I was even able to be one of two wish granters for a local Fairfax girl's wish to go on a cruise with her family and swim with dolphins.
Unfortunately, since having children, I have not been as active with the Make-A-Wish as I was in the past. Last year I participated in this event for the first time and found it to be a great way to participate in this organization that means so much to Tara and I. Plus, just like last year I can certainly benefit personally from the calories burned participating in the event and the practice walks leadnig up to it. I am really excited to have this planned exercise on my calendar again in September.
Now comes the challenging part; raising money for this great organization. Both Tara and I really love what the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Vermont does for children in our state with life-threatening illnesses. I know from my personal experience as a wish granter the level of effort and amount of money it takes to fulfill a child's wish. I also know how unbelievably happy and grateful these children and their families are when their very personalized once in a lifetime wish has been granted.
