Dear Family, Friends, and Co-Workers,
Happy New Year! I hope everyone is off to a healthy and prosperous start to 2011. Our family is doing great. You might be wondering…then what is the purpose of this letter? I’ll get to that in just a minute. As many of you know, I am an avid exercise junkie! I find no better way to relieve stress then by hitting the gym for an hour or two. I’ve been that way the better half of my adult life. I recently took up running, and in the past two years have even entered in some local races here in the D.C area. First a 5k, then a 10k, and most recently, a half-marathon. It takes lots of hard work and dedication to juggle my “gym life” with my “home and work life”. But frankly, with all of that going on, I still felt there was room for something else in my life. So after talking it over with Leander, we have decided to re-dedicate ourselves to something more important than the gym, work, TV. and the internet. We are becoming more active in our favorite charity, OPERATION SECOND CHANCE.
Now you’re thinking…what is OPERATION SECOND CHANCE? OPERATION SECOND CHANCE, also known here as O.S.C. is a fully tax deductible 501 (c) 3 charitable organization. It helps our brave men and women of the armed forces here in D.C. area. O.S.C. provides aid directly to the wounded soldiers and their families who might be facing financial difficulties. O.S.C. through generous corporate donations help disabled veterans with housing and vehicle modifications to make their surroundings wheelchair accessible. O.S.C. volunteers help wounded veterans grocery shop and take them to routine appointments. O.S.C. does this and more to help our men and women of the armed forces, many of whom face challenges back here in the states. Many of our brave soldiers must adjust to life here as amputees, partially disfigured, or suffering from PTSD. They unselfishly volunteered to fight for us here and abroad, so that we can be free and rest comfortably in our beds at night. Now it’s time to give back to them and show our appreciation!
In 2011, I will be running to raise money for O.S.C. and their mission statement. My first race of the year will be Pike’s Peak 10k, held in Rockville Maryland. This is why I am appealing to all of you. I need your help and support on reaching my goal of $750.00. Remember, this is for charity and every penny is tax deductible. I know most people are still going through financial worries with our unsettled economy. But if you have any extra funds lying around waiting to be used for a good cause, PLEASE consider my charity first. Oh, and just so you know, I’ll be making the first donation to reach my goal! I urge each one of you to go to the official O.S.C. website at
www.OperationSecondChance.org to find out more about this wonderful organization. A donation in any dollar amount will help me reach my goal, and help the life of a wounded soldier and their families. I thank you for your love and support as I strive to reach my goal!
