Tom Baker's Fundraising Page
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page for WALDEN SCHOOL LTD!
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
My compositional efforts have never been very fruitful, and my present musical concentration is on regaining my pianistic abilities, which have deteriorated over the years. Therefore my activity for this fund-raising period is to put in a full 90 minutes of hard work each day on a piece that has always defeated me: the Chopin c#m Scherzo. Though I am entering late, I am on track with the labor.
All my life's music-making has been informed by my training under Mrs. Cushman, John Weaver, Ron Nelson, and Shari Fleming. Everything that I learned as a music theory major at Yale built upon that splendid foundation, as did all my subsequent study and my short career as college music teacher. Music sounds to me the way it sounds because I learned through the Musicianship program how to listen. I have received no richer gift. Now I would like to make return to the Walden School so that young people may continue to have that extraordinary experience and that extraordinary foundation.
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
UPDATE, APRIL 27: As time has passed, I have noted improvement every single day. If I keep running like this for another 88 feet, I'll be at first base. I've made more obvious progress with my Mozart sonata (DM, K. 576), but, hard as it is, it's only a Burke Mt. compared to Chopin's Mt. Washington. Thanks for the support, friends. Chopin thanks you too. thb
