Welcome! I am attempting my fifth 100+ mile trail race (called a trail ultra-marathon) on July 27th - 28th in Cleveland as a fundraiser for NAMI of Erie County (PA). I am sure all of us knows someone - a friend, neighbor, family member - that has been impacted by depression or another mental illness.
What is NAMI? The National Alliance on Mental Illness of Erie County provides education and support of mental illness for individuals and families in an effort to improve the public's awareness and understanding of mental health. The agency currently offers referrals, educational programming, such as Family-to-Family, Peer-to-Peer, and several forums called Speaker Series, which highlight individuals, family members and mental health professionals presenting on various topics relating to children and families coping with mental illness. Most of these programs are offered at no cost to the community.
The race I am participating in is called the Burning River 100 and it is a 101 mile point-to-point trail race from Cleveland to Akron OH through the Cuyahoga Valley National Park and other Cleveland Metroparks.
DONATE NOW BEFORE THE RACE and drive my training to the extreme heights needed for this race, especially during these snowy cold winter months. I will print and laminate your names and bring the list with me on race weekend - it will keep me going when I feel like I cannot take another step. Make a donation IN MEMORY OF for all to see.
Here is NAMI of Erie County's website for more information:
Does your employer have a "matching gifts" program? If so, please submit your donation to them for consideration (see the GE instructions below for which NAMI to select), let me know about it and I'll add your company's contribution to the "offline" total below in your name so you get full credit for your donation.
GE employees / retirees - DOUBLE your $25 donation! Click on the "this gift will be matched" checkbox and enter GE in the company name if you are donating at least $25. Then click here to submit your donation to GE Foundation's Matching Gifts program! Click the GE participants login button, accept the terms, and in the "ready to get started?" section enter "NAMI" in the organization search field and PA in the state field, then select the 1611 Peach St, Suite 105, Erie PA chapter ("select" is in the rightmost "action" column). Be sure to confirm your selection as the final step. Then let me know you did the gift matching, I'll update the 'offline' total below so you get "full credit" for your donation .
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to donate - by DEBIT CARD or CREDIT CARD - very convenient! But for those of you who aren't comfortable donating online, please make your check payable to "NAMI of Erie County" (it must match this exactly) and mail it to:
PO Box 8036
Erie, PA 16505
Be sure to include a message with the check you would like included below, and I will update the offline amount below so you can see your check contributions grow along with the online donations. I'll then give the checks to NAMI of Erie County.
THANK YOU for your support and for helping me "go long" for mental illness awareness in Erie County.
