The American Red Cross is providing relief to more than 500 Iowa residents after torrential downpours earlier this week flooded rivers and creeks in the eastern part of the state. Evacuated families found a warm, safe place to dry out and received immediate disaster assistance at seven Red Cross shelters located throughout the affected region.

Families in need of assistance are being urged to contact Red Cross service centers where they can receive immediate disaster needs such as food, clothing, medicine and cleanup supplies. Red Cross service centers have been set up in Dubuque, Dyersville, Cedar Rapids and Charlotte. Others will be opened as needed.
