2011 Over The Edge - Memphis
Thank you for visiting my Over The Edge page to help me raise money for Special Olympics Tennessee!
On Saturday, August 27 at 10:25am I will be rappelling 225 feet down the IBank building in East Memphis (5050 Poplar Avenue) to raise much needed funds for some very special people. You probably know that government aid for people with disabilities continues to be cut, so I am so grateful that you are joining me in this effort. I need to raise at least $1000 to participate, so any amount you can donate will help; no amount is too small.
August 26 UPDATE: When I originally invited my SheWoman Adventure Club friends to join me in this adventure I did not think they would out-fundraise me. Well, one of them, Beth Trouy (http://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/bethtrouy/2011overtheedge-memphis) has raised over $2500 already. I'm impressed!! Can you help me save face (assuming I have some left after scraping the side of the building tomorrow) by at least getting close to $2500? Remember, it all goes to the Special Olympics - what a great and important cause. Now, back to the original information:
The picture of me on the right was taken at the very moment I decided to go Over the Edge (I, too, thought it was uncanny that a professional photographer from the 1940s was on hand to capture my reaction. And that my hair was brown and curly.) I'm excited about this adventure but also a bit terrified. If you, too, would like to be terrified, I think there is still time to sign up to rappel and start your own fundraising initiative.
On the other hand, if you'd rather help by making a financial donation, please click on the big green square below. They say it's "simple, fast and totally secure." Alternatively, if you are a bit paranoid about technology (and rightfully so), I will come to your home, place of business, or other designated location to pick up your donation. To memorialize your generosity, I will etch your name in the iBank building on my way down (no guarantee of legibility).
Thanks, thanks, and thanks again for supporting me and Special Olympics Tennessee! You are doing your random act of kindness for the day/week/month/year. I'll see you Over the Edge.
