Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!
I wanted to let you all know that I am going to be running in the 2010 Boston Marathon (yep, it's 26.2 milles, folks)... and I am asking for your support! :)
The company I work for, EMC, has been a leading sponsor for the Michael Carter Lisnow Respite Center's annual Boston Marathon fundraiser since 1999. This year they have picked a Marathon Team of just 20 runners from our global employee pool... and I was lucky enough to be chosen!
The Respite Center was founded in 1997 by Mary McQueeney and Sharon Lisnow, the mother of Michael, who was born 16 wks premature. Although Michael was unable to walk, talk, or see, he was able to laugh and live with joy and determination. In his 10 short years, he taught those around him that everyone can learn and grow, no matter what their age or disability.
Initially the Center that would become his namesake served only 4 children... Today they provide nearly 100,000 hours of respite care each year! They offer scholarships for families who are unable to cover the costs associated with the assisted care of children and adults with disabiities (for more info please visit www.hopkingtonrespite.com).
So, I know that my training will be very hard,.. but I also know it is nothing compared to what the parents and children who are helped by the Respite Center go through each and every day. Their marathon is one that never ends.
My goal is to raise $4,000 for this amazing place. ANY contribution, large or small, is greatly appreciated, and it can and will make a difference.
*And here's the best part! EMC will match the funds I raise, dollar-for-dollar, and 100% of the money that I raise will go directly to the Respite Center Scholarship Fund. The Center is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, and all donations are tax deductible.
Thank you so much for your support-- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
