Through successful sports training and competition, Special Olympics athletes develop physically, socially, and psychologically. The positive experiences that the athletes have in ongoing Special Olympics programs build confidence and self-image, which carry over into all aspects of their lives.

I am involved for a selfish reason; I have a daughter with intellectual disabilities.  But the event that leads me to be a volunteer was as I was watching another athlete.  His name is Michael.  We were at the first golf practice of the season.  He could not hit the ball.  He swung and swung and was becoming very frustrated.  Coach Bill worked with him for about two minutes and he swung and connected with that ball!  He threw his hands up in the air and yelled, “I CAN do it!”  He has become one of our best golfers.

Some of you have volunteered and experienced first hand the difference that Special Olympics makes in the lives of those with intellectual disabilities. Thank - you!
