Huntington's disease is an rare inherited neurodegenerative genetic disease that results in uncontrollable movements, cognitive decline and dementia. Currently, 30,000 Americans have HD and another 250,000 people are at risk. People are born with the defective gene, but symptoms generally do not appear until middle age. In later stages, it can take away your ability to walk, talk and swallow. If one of your parents has Huntington's disease, you have a 50/50 chance of getting the disease.
