Max's Miracle
Max's Miracle
Our son Max Irvine was born on March 2, 2005 as a healthy baby boy. Max had his first seizure at the age of 2 1/2. He was diagnosed with Myoclonic-Astatic Epilepsy, Doose Syndrome, in December of 2007. Over the next year, his epilepsy progressed to the point that he was unable to walk, talk, chew his food or even sit up on his own. Max was having hundreds of seizures a day and his life was not what we had dreamed it would be. Over a 15 month time period six different anti-seizure medications were attempted as treatment along with starting the Ketogenic Diet. We felt helpless and alone in dealing with this life changing struggle. We believed that the diet was working, because seizure control had improved, but the medications were interfereing with its progress. After talking wtih Max's neurologist we began the process of weaning medications. Max took his last pill on November 23, 2008 and he started talking and walking the next day. He has not had a seizure since. For the past six-months Max's only medicine is his food, the Ketogenic Diet and the Lord are healing him everyday. He has some catching up to do but we see progress everyday. We see him smile now everyday. Today you would not even know that he could not talk, walk, or even sit up on his own six-months-ago. He is too busy singing and running to even think about sitting still. This is Max's miracle!!!
Your donation to the Stroll For Epilepsy goes toward the Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota. We are very involved in Promoting the Ketogenic Diet through the foundation, and are actually starting a mentor program for families considering the diet as a treatment. They are naming the mentor program "Max's Miracle".
