AIDS Ride for Life 2011
I am working on developing this page. Been on two rides so far this spring, time to get myself in gear. I plan on being better prepared than in recent years.
My first real knowledge of AIDS came when I was in college. That is when I first participated in a training to better understand what was happening with HIV/AIDS. That is also when I helped make a panel for the AIDS quilt. My committment continued when I was in the Peace Corps and began doing educational programming. That was an eye opening experience. I was politely told by the government of the country in which I was serving that if I continued educational programming about HIV/AIDS I would be deported. I continued and fortunately I was deported.
I do not exactly recall when I first began participating in the AIDS Ride for Life but I have lived in Ithaca since 2002 and the ride has been a significant part of my epxerience here. I meet one of my best friends to this day because I was directed to her as a good person to help prepare for the Ride. Maybe I can find out how much I have raised since the beginning.
A wide variety of people have supported me in this endeavor, including the aforementionned friend. It has been amazing to me just how many people have donated to the cause each year that I ride. I actually cannot recall a time when someone I asked directly turned me down for a donation, and if you are reading this page, you know, that I ask most everyone I see.
So, thank you for visiting my page.
