I'll be walking once again this year with Team Madd Dash in honor and memory of my niece, Maddeson.  This year she will be shining her love down on her team from up in Heaven.  Sadly, on August 21, 2009, she lost her battle to an aggresive, rare form of childhood cancer known as Ewing's Sarcoma.  My sister Amy continues to honor her bravery and courage through Team Madd Dash and by raising funds for a very worthy cause - Children's Cancer Connection.

Children's Cancer Connection provides the only summer camp in Iowa devoted exclusively to children with cancer, and the sibling program was one of the first of its kind in the nation. Camp Heart Connection is provided at no cost to the families because of generous financial support from both individuals and organizations. Outings, weekend retreats, and hospital based programs are provided at little or no cost to participants and no one is ever turned away from an activity because of an inability to pay.  Maddeson was able to attend Cancer Camp last year and had a blast.  She had intentions of being a camp counselor when she got older.  I'm sure she's started her own Cancer Camp in heaven and is the lead counselor!

With the Beads of Bravery program, children are given different types of beads for all the procedures they go through while battling cancer.  Maddeson's array of beads was many - she fought hard and endured much - all with bravery and lots of spunk!  Without support from donors like you, through events such as Run, Rock, and Stroll, these programs would not be possible.  One of the best aspects of this organization is that 100% of the funds raised stay in Iowa! All children served by Children's Cancer Connection either live in Iowa, are treated in Iowa, or were diagnosed in Iowa.  Maddeson was treated at U of Iowa and also lived in Marion, Iowa.
