Griffen Gives to Furry Friends Rescue

Hi Everyone!

I'm glad you stopped by.  I want to tell you a story.  There was a little white dog who was abandoned a long time ago for being too old.  He lived on the streets and scrounged for food, sleeping in the cold, trying to survive.  One rainy day, soaked to the bone, he was spotted by some shelter workers.  They ran after him and it took awhile but they finally caught him, how was this dog to know if these were good people or bad people?  He was scared, cold, wet and needed medical attention.

The vet noticed his rotting teeth from malnutrition and had to remove all of them.  He was neutered, cleaned up and ready to go.  Guessing him to be about 10 years old, they named him Griffen for his fur and because he somewhat resembled the mythical creature.  He was put in a kennel at the Tri-City Animal Shelter in Fremont and put up for adoption.  However no one wanted a 10 year old, senior dog.  On the verge of being put to sleep, Furry Friends Rescue saved him and put him in a foster home.  Still a year went by and no one gave Griffen a second glance.  Now 11 years old, no teeth, and losing his hearing.. was there a chance for this dog to find his forever home?

It turned out about this time, a young woman was looking to adopt.  She had in mind to adopt an older dog and definitely a rescue or shelter animal.  She sent out lots of emails, was on petfinder for a month before finding Furry Friends Rescue's website.  She browsed the photos daily and actually emailed about two different dogs, she described what her lifestyle was like and what she was looking for.  She had seen Griffen's photos but he looked bigger in the photo and she wanted a dog under 25 pounds.  The president of FFR wrote back and said Griffen was probably the best fit, this woman decided to go meet him.  It was love at first sight!  She didn't even notice his toothless grin and adopted him that day.

Now 6 months later, Griffen and I share a bond that I know will last forever.  He's been a light in  my life and taught me a lot in the last 6 months and been a comfort through hard times as well.  I can't thank FFR enough for having saved his life so I could find him a year later.  I now volunteer for them, helping post animals on their website, in hopes that other animals will also find their forever homes.

Please take a moment and consider donating to Furry Friends Rescue, Griffen and I would appreciate it. :)

Update: I made this page about a month before Griffen passed away.  After he went to the bridge I was amazed by just how many people were touched by his toothless smile and how people were so willing to help support the rescue that saved his life.  I met my $100 goal through 3 pals on Dogster and can't thank them enough for their generosity and huge hearts.

Griffen really was a special dog to a lot of people and my best friend.  I hope any future visitors will consider helping out Furry Friends Rescue on his behalf, so that more animals who might be "tossed" because of their age can find happy homes filled with love to live out their lives.

Thank you!
