Why We're Racing

The Special Operations Warrior Foundation mission is devoted to providing a college education to every child who has lost a parent while serving in Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps Special Operations during an operational or training mission. The forces covered by the Foundation include Navy SEALs, Army Rangers, Air Force Pararescue Jumpers, Marine Force Reconnaissance, Army Special Forces (Green Berets), Navy Special Boat Units, Special Operations aviation units and others throughout multi-service Special Operations organizations.

In other words, for those not familiar with the Special Operations community, the Warrior Foundation benefits those forces who carried out the May 2, 2011, raid that killed Osama bin Laden, as well as those forces who recently suffered massive casualties resulting from the August 6 and the August 9 downed helicopter incidents in Afghanistan and Fort Benning, GA, respectively.  

The Warrior Foundation is currently committed to providing scholarship grants, not loans, to more than 760 children. These children survive over 600 Special Operations personnel who gave their lives in patriotic service to their country, including those who died fighting our nation's war against terrorism as part of "Operation Enduring Freedom" in Afghanistan and the Philippines as well as "Operation Iraqi Freedom." To date, 143 children of fallen special operations warriors have graduated from college.  To date, the Special Operations Warrior Foundation has also provided over $700,000 to wounded special operations personnel.

Our Team History

In 2010, we started the Warrior Tri Team to honor four of our nation's finest, who all fell in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM in 2007 - Sergeant Major Brad Conner, Sergeant First Class Nate Winder, Sergeant First Class Mike Tully and Sergeant First Class Adrian Elizalde.  Our goal was to raise $20,000 for the Warrior Foundation in memory of those fallen heroes and in support of the six children those brave men left behind.  Thanks to the outstanding support we received from friends, family and supporters who believed in our cause, we successfully raised over $31,000!  We were humbled and honored by our supporters' generosity. 

This Year's Race

We're going for it, again.  On September 11, 2011, we will individually compete in the Nation's Triathlon in Washington, D.C.  Each of us has pledged to raise $2500 to honor some of our nation's fallen heroes and to help provide their children a free college education.  Our collective goal is to raise over $20,000 toward that end.  Please visit the Warrior Tri Team page on Facebook.  You will be able to see all our workouts, our support and the motivation behind our team.  Come check us out!
