Wayne's Fundraising 5 mile run for Black Rock School
Hello Friends and Family,
As some of you may know, there are many of us that live in the Black Rock section of Bridgeport. In the past, when most families kids reached school age they either used private schools or sold their house and left town. The public school was not an option.
As believers in public school education, many of us that loved the community and did not want to move, banded together to enter Black Rock School. This is an old fashioned neighborhood school that has a true diverse population. The school is well run and those of us have been thrilled with the staff and students.
However, in the city of Bridgeport, nothing is ever set in stone. Last year many of us in the community had to fight to keep the school open due to budget issues.
We now have several items on our agenda. 1) Making the school K-8, rather then just K-6. 2) Creating after school programs for the kids, likely with the Burroughs Community Center (thanks to them for partnering with us to provide the online technology to solicit for the Black Rock School), and 3) Redoing the schools play ground to one the is better for all students.
This is our first fundraising event and this will provide us with two things. First it will give us some seed money to achieve the goals above as well as provide some money direct to teachers to take field trips, which are not covered in the budget, but are so vital to the kids learning.
Thanks for any contribution to our neighborhood school.
Sincerely,
Wayne
