Hello, my name is Marleen Oetzel, and I am the adoption/foster coordinator for L&F Dog Rescue. Thank you for visiting my fundraising page for the Chain Off 2008 sponsored by Dogs Deserve Better - NO CHAINS!
Our rescue has saved many dogs who have ended up in *housing* as shown here. We have rescued dogs who have lived on the end of a chain for 7-8 years. Due to that, I'm giving up my freedom for a scant 31 hours by chaining myself to a dog house to raise awareness for dogs that are held hostage by chains & kennels 24/7 their entire lives. My hope is that by giving up my freedom for such a short time -- we can raise enough awareness to help earn the dogs in Delaware theirs!
With your help, my goal is to raise $4,000 for this organization so they can help dogs who are chained up in backyards stretching from Delaware to Alaska. One of the ways the donations will be used is to provide fencing for people who agree to bring the dog indoors. For success stories visit: http://www.dogsdeservebetter.org/fencing.html
I was horrified to learn there is also a public safety issues posed by chained dogs. Perpetually chained dogs are responsible for hundreds of attacks on children every year. http://www.mothersagainstdogchaining.org/attacks.html ~ Shown to the left are pictures of two children who have been killed or maimed by chained dogs. If you sponsor ME for just one hour or for each hour that I am chained – (no donation is too small) I promise to do all I can to take a stand along with Dogs Deserve Better, Kent County SPCA to help change the laws here in Delaware so that the practice of chaining and kenneling dogs 24/7 for life is abolished.
My first 24 hour chain off in Georgetown DE was completed June 29. I was sponsored by the Kent County SPCA. Their support will help us move Delaware into the 21st Century and ban chaining dogs. The video shows me at the end of my 24 hours of being chained. We can not allow this practice to be legal in Delaware. It was horrible!
My second chain off is being held at the Faithful Friends, a no kill shelter. It will be held July 5th from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Please stop by their facility to visit us at 12-a Germay Drive, Wilmington DE 19804. There will be an information booth. We will have door prizes, raffles, soft pretzels and soda.
Best of all, on Saturday 7/5/08 at 1:00 PM you can meet two of our DE-CHAINED dogs DeeJay and Handsome Jake. They will be happy to sign paw-autographs! For more info on our dogs visit: www.lnfdogs.org
