WHOmentors.com, Inc. seeks to assist South Korean J-1 Interns participating in the WEST (Work, English Study, Travel) Program established by a Memorandum of Understanding between the United States Department of State and the Republic of Korea.
Typically, the program costs around $8,500 for a full 18-month program (English instruction and placement support) and U.S. Employers are requested to offer a stipend of $1,000 per month. This does not include monthly expenses and visa fees. In some situations, J-1 interns perform independent placement.
5,000 South Korean J-1 interns are anticipated annually and they may be susceptible to severe economic hardship caused by unforeseen circumstances beyond the J-1 intern's control. These circumstances may include a loss of financial aid or internship without fault on the part of the intern, substantial fluctuations in the value of currency or exchange rate, inordinate increases in living costs, or unexpected changes in the financial condition of the student's source of support, medical bills, or other substantial and unexpected expenses.
Example: If internship placement opportunities in the United States of America are not available or are otherwise insufficient, or in case a company cannot afford to offer a monthly stipend,This fundraising campaign will allow WHOmentors.com, Inc. to extend financial support to a broad charitable class.
