Reggie Williams Exhibit
Help make the Reggie Williams Exhibit event a huge success!
February 7th through March 7th, 2010 — during Black History Month — Stop AIDS Cincinnati will host the next installation of the Reggie Williams Exhibit in Cincinnati, Ohio! >> Program
Stop AIDS, The Black AIDS Institute and I need your help to make this a dynamic event, one that represents the best in community activism and motivational education that Reggie was well known for.
“Our mission is to share the legacy of Reggie Williams as a role model in the struggle against the AIDS epidemic, to create more understanding for the life of people with HIV/AIDS and to inspire, empower and motivate people in the ongoing fight against AIDS.”
Wolfgang Schreiber and Julie Potratz
The Cincinnati event will complete a three-city tour of the exhibit, the first in Los Angeles 2001 and then in San Francisco 2002/03. Reggie grew up in Cincinnati in the 1950s and 60s as, in his own words, a little black boy from the projects. In 1969 he graduated high school to go on to receive a degree as an x-ray technologist. Later he left the state for California where he became an AIDS activist in the 1980s.
This Ohio exhibit will continue Reggie’s and our contributions to the struggle of raising awareness of HIV in the Black and gay communities. The city’s conservative environment represents a prime location for the types of transformative discussions that are generated from an event like this. And you can help us get that done!
Today, everything Reggie talked about still holds true. Nearly 50% of the estimated 1.2 million Americans living with HIV are Black! 70% of the new HIV cases among adolescents in the US are Black! AIDS is the leading cause of death for Black women aged 24-34!
So, the groundwork has already been laid for next year. We’re blessed to have Stop AIDS’ support for the project. However, we still need to raise some money to make the Reggie Williams Exhibit a striking event worthy of Reggie’s ongoing legacy. Truly, every little bit helps! Donating through this website is simple, fast and fully secure, and is also the most efficient way to support our fundraising efforts.
Much appreciation goes to the Black AIDS Institute for their gracious support as fiscal agent of the Reggie Williams Exhibit. All donations go to the Black AIDS Institute and are tax deductible. The first 10 donations above 25 Dollars will receive a copy of Lutz van Dijk's book "At Home in Amsterdam", featuring Reggie.
Much love and many thanks for your support!
