Dear friends of the Hattie Carthan garden,
> June is fund and friendraising month at the Hattie Carthan
> Community Garden Bedford Stuvesant Brooklyn. As you may
> already be aware, the Hattie Carthan Community Garden has
> converted an abandoned lot previously used as a
> neighbourhood dumping ground into a thriving neighbourhood
> community farmers market which will improve fresh food
> access to members of the Central Brooklyn community.
>
> > >
>
> We envision a marketplace which remembers the agricultural
> heritage of Bedford Stuyvesant, one that contributes to
> the cultural, social and economic vitality of Brooklyn and
> seeks to enhance the quality of life in the Bedford
> StuyvesantCentral Brooklyn area by providing fresh locally grown
> food to community residents and entrepreneurial opportunities
> for a variety of locally grown and value added farm
> products and commodities directly to the customer. Our community
> farmers’ market programs will sustain community health,
>good nutrition, energy, human dignity, and the opportunity
> for individuals to meet their full potential.
>
> No matter how noble and pure out intentions, we cannot
> meet our goals alone. The success of community service
> organizations such as ours depends wholly on the
> involvement and contributions from caring members of the community
> like you.
>
> We are humbly asking for your generous assistance in
> helping our group realize our goals. By donating money
> to our cause and showing up to support fundraising events
> happening in the garden you are not just helping our
> garden to continue the work we do in community but helping to
> increase access to healthy food for low-income communities.

> During the month of June 2009, the Hattie Carthan
> Garden in partnership with our community partners and the
> market fiscal sponsor Baileys Cafe are focused on
> generating proceeds at any possible means to be able to purchase
> necessary equipment for community market’s first season. To
> date, the garden has received no monetary support for this
> community venture. We have submitted letters and
> supporting documentation to our local politicians and
> community funders but have heard nothing back regarding our efforts
> to increase health in the Bedford Stuyvesant community.
>
> So we have decided to turn to you. We hope to raise ten
> thousand dollars with the help of our community during the
>month of June which will help us to purchase tents, chairs
> and tables, scales, lockboxes, butane burners for cooking
> demonstrations in the market, market tables, baskets
> and materials to create signage for farmers’ stalls.

> Your donation, no matter how small or large, will go a
> long way towards helping us meet our goals. Our fundraising efforts include an International Food festival happening in the garden on June 13th 2009
> 2pm to 10pm ,our herb festival which takes place in the
> garden on June 21st 2009 10 am to 5pm , a film show in the garden on June
