~ WELCOME to our TEAM JOSHUA/Race 4 Research Fundraising page!
You all know how much we love our Pooh Bear (Joshua), and would do ANYTHING in the world for him! Well, WE (big sissy Caylee and mama Yvonne AND Auntie Rachel aka Choo Choo) have decided to RUN 4 RESEARCH!! TOGETHER in 2011 we will run a 5K 3 half MARATHONS, AND Rachel will run a FULL MARATHON to raise money!!! A half marathon consists of 13.1 miles and a full marathon consists of 26.2 miles!!! CAYLEE is also going to do The Warrior Dash. The Warrior Dash is a CRAZY 5K, filled with mud crawling, fire leaping and EXTREME obstacles!!!
1) The Jiggle Butt Run on Saturday, January 08, 2011 in Arlington, TX (COMPLETED!!)
2) The Cowtown Marathon (Caylee and Mama are doing the half marathon, and Choo Choo will be doing the FULL MARATHON) on Sunday, February 27, 2011, in Fort Worth, TX
WE will train and train for these 5k’s and half marathons and FULL marathons , and not give up, because if you watch the little video off to the side, of Joshua trying to walk, you will see what we see every single day…a very BRAVE little warrior who tries SO VERY HARD to do EVERYTHING!! Things that we all take for granted every single day, and Joshua NEVER, EVER GIVES UP!!! He is our little HERO, a WARRIOR in his own right, he faces extreme obstacles every day!!!
There has been such exciting research happening! They have ACTUALLY cured Angelman Syndrome in a mouse model!! There is also research, going on right now, with already FDA approved medications, on mouse models, to see if one of them could help with our children's major struggles, balance, tremors, seizure disorder...If one of those could help Joshua to balance better and be able to walk...well it would be a dream come true!!!! I believe it will happen. I believe our kids will one day not fight seizures every day. I believe there will be something that can help all the nuerons fire smoothly the way they should, our children's brains are perfectly formed, but the pathways just get stuck, a traffic jam of sorts. A favorite quote of mine is by a young woman, Harli Kirkpatrick, who has Angelman Syndrome, she uses a typer to communicate her thoughts, and she is such an amazing inspiration, and another hero of mine! "Brain no broken but some curves in road"~Harli Kirkpatrick
Imagine a day when our children will never again suffer from seizures. Imagine a day when each can walk, not needing their wheelchair/walker. THEN Imagine a day when another child born with Angelman Syndrome will never experience seizures, when NO Angelman child will ever again be forced into a drug induced coma just to stop the seizures that ravage his/her body, or have to experience the physical struggles and sleepless nights.
I believe it can happen with YOUR help!
Also, our family knows that there are so many worthy causes to donate to, other causes that close to your heart, and we understand that you do this because of your love for Joshua, and our family! Thank you! We are so very grateful.
