Thank you for visiting my Personal Fundraising Page where I have a chance to personally raise funds to help find a cure for this devastating disease. You can learn more about this event at www.scleroderma.org/chapter/no_calif, and choose 2nd annual ...Walk/Run". If you cannot participate by joining the team and walking, running or participating in the silent auction, you can still donate directly to the cause. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to make a contribution to my fundraising efforts. Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate, too!
I have been fighting Scleroderma for the past thirteen years, in the earlier years of my illness I went through multiple hand surgeries, kidney failure and was hospitalized several times. I seemed to have reached a plateau in dealing with my illness. Although, I have chronic pain and severe hand problems, I have learned to live with this illness. Thanks to a wonderful team of doctors and healthcare professionals, the support, love and understanding from amazing family and friends, I am able to be an integral part of this event and maintain a good quality of life.
Scleroderma is a chronic, often progressive autoimmune disease in which the body's immune system attacks its own tissue. The disease, which literally means "hard skin", can cause thickening and tightening of the skin as well as serious damage to internal organs. It occurs 3 to 4 times more often in women than men, and affects children. 15% of people with this disease develop an aggressive form of diffuse systemic sclerosis, a very severe & life threatening manifestation. Regardless of the form, it is at best a life changing diagnosis with no known cause or cure and at worst one which will take a life within a few years.

There is good quality research happening but it takes substantial amounts of money to fund this research. Scleroderma is not as well known as some of the other autoimmune diseases (e.g. AIDS, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and Lupus), and therefore needs to reach out for that fundraising through direct channels like this.
I am well enough this year to participate in this walk to help raise funds for a cure. Any amount you can donate toward this worthy cause would be greatly appreciated. It only takes a few large donations to reach a goal, but more likely it will be reached with many smaller donations so please know literally any amount you can add will help. Thank you in advance!
If you can join me in walking, running either 2 miles or a timed 10k, or even participating in an on-site silent auction and raising funds that way please join Team Yvonne through this website. It kicks off with registration at 8 a.m. and walking / running starting 9 a.m.Sunday, May 16, 2010 at Almaden Lake Park in San Jose. The link "Join This Team" is at the top right portion of this page under the fundraising meter.
