Zach Butler's World Winter Games Fundraising Page
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! I'm Zach Butler, and I have been participating in Special Olympics North Carolina since I was 8 years old. I have been selected to represent NC and Special Olympics Team USA in the upcoming World Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea from January 26-February 6, 2013. I am very excited to travel to South Korea for the first time! I will be competing in the sport of snowboarding.
I have been participating in snowboarding for about 5 years now. I got my first gold medal in 2011. I am practicing hard and getting better each year to now compete as a Level 3 snowboarder. I hope to bring home a gold medal for Special Olympics Team USA in the snowboarding competition!
When I am not snowboarding, I play a number of other sports. I have played soccer for 6 years as the goalie, and we have won a gold medal each year. I also play softball and play a variety of different positions on the field. I have also won a number of gold medals with the softball team, and our team went to Lincoln, Nebraska to compete in the National Summer Invitational in 2009. We came in 2nd place, and we had an awesome experience! I also play basketball with a team that is getting better and better each year.
I know it sounds like I spend a lot of time playing sports, but I am also a part of the S.T.A.R. drama club. The parents of the club members help us put together and produce performances each year for about 10 years now. I love performing in front of a crowd! Each year our plays get better and better with all of our hours spent practicing. I also volunteer in the summer with Raleigh Parks & Recreation as a camp volunteer counselor with the Summer Express Camps. I have done this for 4 years, and I love working with the younger kids.
I was very lucky to be chosen in 2001 to participate in the Winter World Games in Alaska as a speed skater, and I came in 4th place. I hope to return to the Winter World Games in South Korea in my new sport of snowboarding and bring home a gold medal this time! I am looking forward to the fun trip and meeting new people in making new friends!
I need your help in reaching my fundrasing goal of $2,013.00. In keeping to the 2013 theme for the upcoming competition, please donate in increments of $2.13, $20.13, $200.13, or $2,013.00. All donations are welcome and will help me reach my fundraising goal.
