I am racing to save lives and to cure childhood cancer with my friends at CURE Childhood Cancer and PressOn to CURE Childhood Cancer.
Say hello to my friend Patrick. Patrick is an inspiration to us all and his oversized smile is infectious. Unfortunately, after five and a half years of treatment, we lost Patrick to neuroblastoma, a rare and aggressive childhood cancer. Along the way, Patrick taught us a lot about perseverance and perspective.
Patrick’s friend Brennan lives in Augusta, Georgia. Brennan is 10 and he has been battling acute myeloid leukemia for over 3 years. Although AML is an aggressive form of cancer, I am happy to report that after 4 bone marrow transplants, multi-organ failure and numerous stays in the ICU, Brennan recently returned to school and is now enjoying a well-deserved summer vacation.
My children miss Patrick every day and they pray for Brennan every night. I am honored and humbled to be associated with inspirational kids like Patrick and Brennan and to be the Vice President of CURE Childhood Cancer, a non-profit organization in Atlanta. CURE was founded in 1975 and since that time our efforts have helped increase the survival rate for pediatric cancer from 10% to 80%. But that’s not good enough and we can do more. Our determination and resolve are shared by Patrick’s and Brennan’s families who teamed up with CURE a few years ago to create the PressOn to CURE Childhood Cancer Fund. Together, CURE and PressOn have donated millions of dollars to fund pediatric cancer research throughout the United States.
Please help me help these kids and their loving families. On September 30, 2012, I will attempt to complete a half-Ironman triathlon in Augusta, Georgia. The event consists of a 1.2 mile swim, a 56-mile bike and then a 13.1 mile run. It won't be easy. The pain and sacrifice I am experiencing during my training and that I will certainly feel on race day are nothing compared to the pain endured by Patrick and Brennan, their families and far too many kids with cancer.
Please donate today. The race is 70.3 miles long and I am hoping that you will donate at least $70.30.
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts. Many thanks for your support -- and please forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
All the best,
Leslie
