60 DAY YOGA CHALLENGE - WATER FOR HAITI

In my imagination, Haiti had always been a spot for a perfect vacation. Obviously, the devastation resulting from the earthquake has reversed that image. Still, if I could, that´s exactly where I would go now, but not on vacation... Unfortunately, due to work and study commitments, that´s not feasible, so I´ve decided to help through other means.
My project consists in a 60 day yoga challenge to collect donations. For 60 days, starting on the 31st of January until the 31st of March 2010, I will do a Bikram/Hot Yoga class per day in a Bikram Yoga studio in London http://www.hotbikramyoga.co.uk. The practice is physically and mentally demanding and consists in a series of 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises that is practiced in a room heated to 105°F (40.5°C), lasting for 90 minutes.
The water sources in Haiti have always been questionable, but now they are actually very dangerous. Earthquakes destroy water systems and their electrical distribution, break pipelines and hand-dug wells become useless or become contaminated with cholera, typhoid, and other waterborne diseases.
This high and urgent need for clean water was the basis to choose Water Missions International as the charity to fundraise for. Their Haiti earthquake response has been admirable and I would like to contribute to the continuation of their activities on site.

No meu imaginário, Haiti sempre foi um cenário para umas férias paradisíacas. Obviamente que a destruição resultante do terramoto alterou essa imagem. Contudo, se eu pudesse, Haiti seria o lugar para onde eu iria agora, mas não de férias... Infelizmente, devido a compromissos de trabalho e estudo, isso não me é possível, pelo que decidi tentar ajudar de outra forma.
O meu projecto consiste num desafio de 60 dias de Yoga para angariar doações. Durante 60 dias, começando no dia 31 de Janeiro até ao dia 31 de Março de 2010, farei um aula de Bikram Yoga (Yoga quente) por dia num estudio de Bikram Yoga em Londres http://www.hotbikramyoga.co.uk. A práctica é extremamente exigente a nível físico e mental e consiste numa sequência de 26 posturas e 2 exercícios respiratórios, praticados numa sala aquecida a 40.5°C, durante 90 minutos.
A qualidade da água no Haiti sempre foi questionável, mas agora tornou-se extremamente perigosa. Terramotos destroem sistemas hidráulicos, tornando-os ineficazes e contaminados com cólera, tifoide e outras doenças.
A urgente necessidade de água potável no Haiti foi a razão pela qual escolhi a instituição Water Missions International para enviar as doações. A resposta imediata desta instituição à catástrofe tem sido admirável e eu gostaria de contribuir para a continuação das suas actividades.
