About Gilda’s Club Delaware Valley

It is the mission of Gilda’s Club Delaware Valley to provide a welcoming place for everyone living with cancer, men, women, teens and children and their families and friends to come together for emotional and social support. Our innovative program is an essential complement to medical care, providing networking and support groups, workshops, educational and social activities.

Completely free of charge and nonprofit, Gilda's Club is a warm and exceptional place where members can share experiences, build friendships, and develop strategies for living with cancer in a non-residential, homelike setting. Support groups are facilitated by licensed mental health professionals and workshops and lectures are facilitated by volunteers who are experts in their field.  There is never a charge to our members. We are completely dependent on funds raised by our generous donor community — individuals, corporations and foundations, and volunteers – who support our mission so that no one has to face cancer alone.
 

Gilda’s Club is named in memory of Gilda Radner, who dreamed that one day there would be support communities available everywhere for people living with cancer. Best known as an original cast member of Saturday Night Live, Gilda’s astonishing career was cut short when she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 1986. Following her death in 1989, Gilda’s husband, actor and comedian Gene Wilder, and many of Gilda’s friends founded Gilda’s Club in her memory. The first Club, with its signature red door, opened in New York City in June 1995. In November 2009, Gilda's Club Worldwide and the national office of The Wellness Community officially merged and became Cancer Support Community. This new national organization will better serve local affiliates ans strengthen the program of support that is offered in local organzations around the country.
