Greetings !!
I hope this letter finds you and your families well. On July 11th, 2009 I will once again be cycling 100 miles in and around the seacoast area of New Hampshire as part of the 7th annual Granite State Quest. As always, I’m running a bit late this year – but that is OK as I have been training – even though it seems each year gets a bit harder.
As many of you now know, this event is a fundraiser for the Massachusetts General Hospital’s Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Unit. The MGH team has world renown experience in treating childhood leukemia, lymphomas and brain tumors. Their work has been a leading factor in the reduction of pediatric deaths over the past 10 years.
Taking learnings from other fund raising cycling events, a core team of five Timberland employees organized a 100-mile bike ride through scenic coastal New Hampshire. We tackle all logistics – designed the ride, recruit the riders and volunteers, organize logistics that range from ensuring proper nutrition and hydration for riders to first aid and technical support – especially for those relic 10-speeders that haven’t seen the road in a great number of years.
In the past six years we have raised amost $600,000 for MGH!! 100% of all funds raised go to Mass General thanks to the generosity of our many volunteers and sponsors. These funds go directly to the Children’s Oncology Unit and not to some general fund. I have personally seen the impact of our contributions on these unbelievably strong kids, and I know we are providing much needed resources - which keeps me going each year. MGH honored the Granite State Quest as one of “the one hundred” -- the top individuals and organizations that have made a significant contribution to advancing the fight against cancer.
If you would like to learn more about the Granite State Quest just go to www.granitestatequest.org or email me at gsaltzberg@comcast.net. I want to thank all of you who have supported me in the past and I hope I can look forward to your support in the future.
Take care and I wish you all a great summer!!!
Best regards,
Greg
