Eradicate Child Labor in Latin America

For some years Agenda SOS Int'l Bruce Organization have been finding children who are not in school and getting them educated. They are abandoned street children and are extremely poor. If they have a parent (usually a single mother) she is probably not a horrible mother, she is simply utterly impoverished, has nothing to give her children .

Give Children the Human Right to be educated

In several cities of Peru and in other Latin American countries, where we operate our program for out-of-school children, we placed the children who had advanced more rapidly than others into state schools.

How much does it cost to educate and sponsor a child?

It costs $200 per child per year.
This includes:
- One teacher and one teaching assistant for up to 25 children.
- Part time of an social worker and Psychologist.

 - Staff transportation
- Change of clothes (shirt, trousers and shoes)
- One new school uniform

 - School registration fees

 - One School starter kit

 - Snacks

Supporting Women's Rights towards financial sustainability
Arriba Ya!  our pilot project addresses different ways of harnessing the allure of financial independence with the joys and responsibilities of successful parenting .  Instead of lending money to the mothers,  we invest in them and become their partner. This both captures their enthusiastic attention and also permits us to work closely with them for at least fourteen months. The pilot project in Trujillo now has over 600 mothers enthusiastically participating. If it continues at this pace it could become the first micro enterprise project to succeed in an urban slum!

Annual Report 2008  http://agendasos.com/annual2008/

Agenda SOS International (Bruce Organisation) have been working very hard to change the landscape for Peru and other Latin American children by giving them the basic human right of experiencing a childhood surrounded by their peers,  learning in a loving and safe environment. The programs that we hasve established over time have become more successful with every attempt. Gauge the success for yourself of student involvement in Agenda SOS International  (Bruce Organisation)

In November 2007, The Peruvian Ministry of Education has acknowledged our efforts and offered to give our children attending our schools the same academic credit they give to students in regular state schools.

- 80% of the children who are enrolled into the program we succeed in educating to the level of children their age who have been going to school all along.

- 6 MONTHS is usually all we need to get a child up to then level of education where he/she can pass the entrance exam to enter the national school system at the grade appropriate to their age.

- 100% of the children we will be able to place are in the national school system within the first year.

But what becomes of them when we finally let go (after two years of monitoring and participation after they have left our little schools)?
70% stay in school

5,000 lives have been improved due to this effective way of gathering impoverished children and preparing them for the educational system and a better life. Because we know it works we will continue to expand our programs and touch the lives of ever more children and their communities. __________________________________________________

 About Bruce Organization
Agenda SOS International (Bruce Organisation), is a non-governmental organization (NGO), working to create sustainable solutions the high percent of children in Latin America who are not getting educated, and to lifting abandoned mothers out of poverty. Our programs invest in human potential by providing each child and woman with a sound foundation that will encourage future success in school and in life.

Our program provides a necessary support for the child by way of education, building self-esteem and instilling discipline in the classroom. We also support the families through our social workers and help to pay some of the school fees to ensure that the child does not drop out again.  You can learn more at our website: www.bruceperu.org and then select any site for more detail.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and completely secure. It is also the most efficient way to make a contribution to our fundraising efforts.

Money donated on this site goes directly to Agenda SOS International, Inc. / and is used in the Bruce Organization projects.

Thanks for your support!! Please don't forget to share this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!

In keeping with this focus, we have programs in education and micro-finance that create students out of child laborers and provide unemployed women the tools they need to become financially independent.

There are many needs in Latin America and among those needs, Agenda SOS Int'l (Bruce Organisation) addresses education. We work with a mix of foreign and peruvian volunteers to teach preparatory classes to children who are not going to school - (whether they had to quit for some reason or have never studied.) Generally children are not in school because they have dysfunctional family structures, are working, or their parent(s) lack the money to pay the ongoing fees of enrollment, school supplies and uniforms.

After 2 years in our comprehensive program, 70% are still attending school. The other 30% who are not in the school that they were placed into at the end of 2 years, have either returned to their families or moved and are untraceable after that point.

All children in the program get an education!  Unfortunately, 15% of the children cannot be expected to enter the national school system due to mental or physical disabilities. There is a lack of infrastructure to accommodate these children in the national system. These children stay in our learning centers and leave with educational skills and an informal certificate of accomplishment. Whenever possible, they are enrolled into a trade school, thereby expanding their skills.
