I wanted to get involved with Team World Vision because in my heart, I've always had a passion to give back, and be able to reach out to those in need and spread God's love. After receiving the Gold Medal, I now have an opportunity to pursue this dream and encourage others to give back.

I have chosen to adopt the community of Kirindon in the African country of Kenya, and make a long term commitment to help the children and families who struggle each day against the effects of poverty and AIDS.  Kirindon, 250 miles east of Nairobi, is a rural, impoverished community that has been severely impacted by HIV and AIDS.  AIDS has already orphaned 5,000 children in this community and this number is growing day by day.  Fifty primary schools, two secondary schools and five community medical dispensaries attempt to serve the education and health needs of Kirindon's 56,000 inhabitants.  A lack of educational opportunities, economic instability and limited access to clean drinking water contribute to the fundamental problems facing this community.  And, when the burden of AIDS is placed on top of this, the future can seem hopeless and bleak for the people of Kirindon.

So, how do we respond to God's call to care for children and families in the face of such overwhelming need?  One child-and one community-at a time.

I'm committed to making a difference in this community.  Together with your support, and World Vision's effective community-based approach to development, ability to partner with and mobilize local churches, and 57 years of innovative care for orphans and vulnerable children, we can help Kirindon with the critical first steps out of poverty and despair.  And, we can walk along side them as they find real, sustainable solutions to the challenges they face.

This project will provide basic and practical assistance such as clean water wells, a school, vocational training, greater access to medical care, income generation opportunities and improved agricultural production. Won't you join me in this important work?
