• There is growing consensus among leading economists that girls’ education is the most effective way to alleviate poverty in Africa.
• Twenty-four million girls in sub-Saharan Africa are not in school because the cost of education is beyond their families’ means.
• Education has a proven impact on women:

1. Education will increase her lifetime income by 25% on average,
2. Education will reduce her risk to be HIV-positive by 66%,
3. Education increases the chance that her kids live beyond the age of 5 by 40%.

• Educating girls and women helps individuals. It also unlocks energies which drive social and economic development.
• 645,400 children in some of the poorest regions of Zimbabwe, Zambia, Ghana and Tanzania have benefited from Camfed’s education program.
