"Norcom Builds"

Welcome to the Norcom Mortgage South Marshall Street fundraising page! Norcom Mortgage has teamed up with Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity to help build affordable housing in Hartford's Asylum Hill neighborhood. Norcom Mortgage has been committed to providing a full suite of financial services to its clients for more than 20 years, including residential mortgages, and having worked with many homeowner families, Norcom Mortgage and its brokers know the importance of "home" and "community." Corporate social responsibility is an important component of the Norcom Mortgage culture. Our vision for social responsibility builds on our vision to give back to and invest in the communities in which our clients and our employees live and work. By partnering with Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity, Norcom Mortgage can help to create positive change in Hartford's Asylum Hill community.

Norcom Mortgage Pledges $100,000.00 to Building Affordable Housing-Can We Count On Your Support? Over the course of the next eighteen months, Hartford Habitat will work alongside more than 5,000 volunteers to build 16 units of affordable housing on South Marshall Street in Hartford. As you can imagine, this is no easy feat. Hartford Habitat relies on the financial contributions of local governments, businesses and foundations to complete its building projects. Norcom Mortgage believes it can help Hartford Habitat complete this project and make a profound impact in the neighborhood, and therefore has pledged to raise $100,000.00 to help build one of the sixteen homes. Consider making a safe, secure online donation to the Norcom Mortgage fundraising initiative, or consider creating a fundraising page of your own. Together, we can help to create the change that is needed in Hartford.

The Need for the Project:

  • The City of Hartford has one of the highest national poverty rates in all cities with a population over 100,000;
  • Hartford’s homeownership rate is only 24.6%, one of the lowest in the nation for cities of comparable size. In contrast, the homeownership rate in Hartford County is 67%;
  • 37.5% of Asylum Hill residents live below the poverty line. The Federal Poverty Line is defined as $21,000.00 for a family of four;
  • Only 567 of the 5,625 housing units in Asylum Hill are owner-occupied;
  • Asylum Hill has the lowest homeownership rate of Hartford’s 17 neighborhoods.
