Description: Regional shelter/adoption services for homeless animals since 1914. Discounted veterinary care for low-income residents and free spay/neuter open to general public. Our teams are assisting with animal rescue efforts in the areas affected by Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita.
Mission: The Washington Animal Rescue League has provided care and compassion to homeless animals since 1914, and is the oldest animal shelter in Washington. A private, not-for-profit organization, the League goes to great lengths to place these animals in permanent, loving homes. In addition to our successful adoption program we have many other innovative services that benefit the animals and people of our community. In 1996, the League extended its scope of services to include low-cost veterinary care by opening its Medical Center to exclusively serve the pets of low-income guardians. The Medical Center provides a full range of services, from physical exams, vaccinations, and dental care to surgery, radiology, and blood work. The League also performs free spay and neuter operations for residents living inside the Washington Beltway to help combat the animal overpopulation crisis.
