Since 1992, the Homeless Empowerment Project has been helping people get on their feet by gaining income, self-esteem and a variety of skills including sales, expressive arts, leadership and organizational management.
While providing these opportunities, we encourage all that participate in our program to become involved in the governance of our community-led organization. It is our belief that people who are experiencing homelessness, when provided with encouragement and accessible opportunities for self-advancement, have the ability to create lasting and positive change for ourselves and others.

| My personal message: |
Hey guys!
I put this page together for Kathy's wonderful 20/20 fundraising idea. For those stumbling here by accident, we are trying to raise money for the operating expenses of Spare Change News/What's Up Magazine, an unbeatable street paper combo that empowers homeless and low income vendors with self-employment opportunities, and also gives the community an independent media space to share news, information, and entertainment.
Here's how it works. Donate 20 dollars and get 20 people to do the same thing. Here are some things you might already do with 20 dollars in any given week: *Buy coffee *Buy cigarettes *Drop accidentally on the ground *Buy an umbrella because you forgot yours at home *Public transportation *Gas
20 bucks isn't that much money. BUT if you give 20 dollars and 20 of your friends do and 20 of their friends do... it can make sure that Spare Change and What's Up keeps going. It's called organizing our money and it's how we can make sure that independent sources of information remain in our community. I heart you all!
