Princess Leiha, or Leiha as we call her, is a 6 year old mini mare. She came to us underweight, wormy, and had some physical issue too. She has what is called sow mouth, or a severe underbite. This caused a few colic episodes when she first arrived due to the fact that she was unable to chew properly and her body had not adjusted itself to digest in an efficeint manner for her condition. She also has crooked hind legs. On top of this, she is due to foal anytime. We have had her teeth done, however with her jaw condition they need to be done every 8-10 months because her teeth don't grind properly. Her hay costs about $50 per month. Having her teeth floated costs $50. Plus vaccinations, wormer, and farrier. This adds up to a total of $700 per year to care for Leiha. She is looking for one or more sponsors to help with her care, so that she can continue to stay with Heartland Horse Rescue as one of the permanent residents.
