EVENT: Hundreds of Eastside Seattle residents will gather to shoot free throws May 20 to raise awareness and education funding for children orphaned by ongoing civil war in Sudan, Central Africa.
SEEDS OF HOPE: Over more than two decades of civil war has resulted in hundreds of thousands of orphans in Sudan. Through partnership with Lost Boys of Sudan living in the United States, Seeds of Hope is caring for and educating Sudanese orphans in Kenya. These children want to learn and want to go to school. Education is the key to escaping the poverty that is still devastating their community and to rebuilding their country. The cost to educate one orphan for a year is $1,200. Our goal in partnering with Hoops of Hope is to raise $25,000 and fund 10 orphans.
Hoops of Hope was started five years ago by a ten-year-old boy with a vision to raise money for orphaned children in Africa primarily due to AIDS. Every year since, participants have gathered to shoot thousands of free throws to raise money for this cause. Over the past five years, participants have raised over $1 million, providing a school, 2 medical clinics, medical care kits, mosquito nets and bicycles to the remote regions of Zambia.
This year, Hoops of Hope has agreed to partner with Seeds of Hope to help care for and educate African orphans. All donations are tax-deductible.
