Every day, Hilda Chanchavac works with the indigenous Mayan women of the Highlands of Guatemala to build their esteem and ability through the Highland Women's Association. Known as AMA for its acronym in Spanish (Asociacion de Mujeres del Altiplano), this growing network of women's circles is improving the lives of the Mayan people, one woman at a time.
As an indigenous Mayan woman herself from the same region, Hilda's guidance and own example is invaluable to the women she leads.
Join Hilda & AMA's Circle of Support by giving through Firstgiving today. By contributing to this cause, you'll be supporting Hilda in the work she does every day throughout over a dozen women's circles in the Guatemala.
Every donation strengthens Hilda & AMA's Circle of Support, with more Mayan women each day learning how to become leaders in their communities to create better lives for everyone.
Please consider making a regular monthly donation to ensure that the women of Guatemala will always have the support they need. It only takes 100 people giving $10 a month to sustain Hilda & AMA's full programming for one year.
Goals of the Highland Women's Association (AMA) include:
- To organize indigenous Mayan women into networks of mutually supportive women's circles that foster transformation.
- To help better their lives by creating environments of hope and dignity.
- To support women's leadership roles through the creation of sister relationships between women's organizations in the United States and Guatemala.
AMA, the Highland Women's Association (in Spanish, the Associacion de Mujeres del Altiplano), is the Guatemala-based sister nonprofit organization of the Highland Support Project (HSP), which is based in Richmond, Virginia.
