The ICA strives to generate public discourse about important issues in society and the arts. From its inception, the ICA has introduced to Boston and the nation such artistic giants as Paul Gauguin, Edvard Munch, and Egon Schiele as well as presenting pivotal exhibitions early in the careers of such artists Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, and Laurie Anderson. The ICA s current programs develop sustained relationships with artists while remaining responsive to the variable landscape of culture. By broadening the parameters of the presentation of art to include unusual public places, the ICA continues to stretch the role of contemporary art museums in America.
