Food for the Hungry and Orchard Hill Church are partnering to bring education into the Mozambique, Africa community. Using the relationships already implanted in Mozambique through FH and OHC, our team Iowans for Africa will join their mission in meeting the needs of others beyond our own walls. People of all ages, abilities, and experience have committed to finish the Des Moines Marathon on October 17, 2010. Training has already begun. As we build up our bodies, minds, and hearts to complete a 26.2 course, we also are preparing to make this race worth so much more than an individual accomplishment. As a team we plan to raise $110,000, which is enough to build a school in Mozambique. School children currently attend class under a tree on the dirt ground and under the scorching sun (see picture to the left). Rainy season causes school to be canceled often. Without a school building, the government will not provide a teacher. By training for the marathon and raising money along the way, we will provide a life changing experience for an entire community hundreds of miles away from us and hopefully will find ourselves changed in the process. Education goes a long way. It not only affects students of today, but generations of students to come. We believe in this mission and we believe we can complete this goal. Will you consider joining our team efforts to bring resources to our brothers and sisters in Christ in Mozambique?
