Why run for orphans?

Due to the HIV/AIDS world crisis, many children have been adversely affected in the following ways:

• More than 15 million have been orphaned (lost one or both parents) to AIDS
• By 2010, the number of children orphaned by AIDS will exceed 20 million (Africa alone will have nearly 16 million of these desperate children)
• There are already 37 million orphans from other causes (including disease, malnutrition, famine, and war)
• Every day almost 30,000 children die due to malnutrition, disease, and/or war
• The number of children orphaned by AIDS in Africa is already more than 11 million--and this number is increasing at a rate that is FIVE times faster than the total population of children on that continent

 How can we sit back and do nothing?

 I Run For Orphans is dedicated to enabling runners to raise money to support orphanages in providing faith, hope, and love to every orphan.  Our desire is to see thousands of runners like you making a difference by raising needed funds for the operating budgets of these orphanages as well as the construction of new ones.  Our dream is to have an I Run For Orphans runner in every major marathon in the United States (and world-wide).

What does the Bible say about orphans?

For in You the orphan finds mercy. Hosea 14:3

I was eyes to the blind and feet to the lame.  I was a father to the needy, and I searched out the cause of him whom I did not know.  Job 29:15-16

And the King (Jesus) will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.  Matthew 25:40

Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this:  to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.  James 1:27

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize?  So run that you may obtain it. 1 Corinthians 9:24
