The Illinois Spina Bifida Association (ISBA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of people living with Spina Bifida, the most common, permanently-disabling birth defect in the US. Spina Bifida is a condition in which the spine fails to close properly during the first month of pregnancy and and can result in varying degrees of paralysis, loss of sensation in the lower limbs, difficulty with bowel and bladder management, hydrocephalus, and learning disabilities. Spina Bifida is a complex condition that requires daily care and specialized professional supports for an individual to live with a maximum degree of health and independence.
