Official time: 3:31:03... a lil' slower than planned but still 34 minutes faster than last year's disaster!
Here we go again, folks... it's marathon time! I'm bib #22467; could I be any farther back? I'm in the 2nd wave of runners, starting at 12:30pm. (yeah, we're giving everyone else a 30 minute headstart!) You can follow our progress at www.baa.org
I am running the 2006 Boston Marathon in support of Reach Out and Read, a national, non-profit organization that promotes early literacy by making books a routine part of pediatric care. Just $55 buys 20 books for the kids so please consider a tax-deductible donation through the link below; using your credit card is fast, easy and totally secure.
Thanks so much for your support -- and please remember to forward this to anyone else who might also want to donate! -Alain
After donating, mark you calendars! Saturday 3/18, 7:00pm to 10:30pm, The Point, Boston Here's one more reason why Boston is THE place to be for St. Patty's Day weekend! We will be having a fund-raising party at The Point in Faneuil Hall on Saturday, March 18th. Food, drinks, great door prizes... watch http://www.bostonrunner.com/sprawl.htm for more details!
And just in case you want to know how I got involved in the Boston Marathon...
Amazing. Epic. Addictive. Running the Boston Marathon is an experience that mere words can hardly describe. I was lucky enough to run Boston in 2005; it was my first marathon ever and quite humbling. But I finished.
You see... I'm not a runner, I'm a cyclist. When a hand injury forced me out of bicycle racing last year, I (single-handedly!) laced up the running shoes. First a 5k, then a 4 miler... and then Boston. Well, I learned first hand why they call it Heartbreak Hill. But despite the cramps and blisters, this non-runner was instantly hooked to the magic that is the Boston Marathon. The kids, the cheers, the sea of runners - that's what makes the 26.2 miles from Hopkinton to Boston so incredibly fun.
Now it's time for Boston #2 and I am thrilled to be a part of Reach Out and Read's Marathon Team! Too many children enter school unprepared for the learning process because they were not exposed to books at a young age. Early literacy programs are empowering future generations to learn more, so pease join me in supporting ROR by donating today!
