You’re probably wondering what a Lab like me is doing on a Firstgiving page raising money for basset hounds. Well let me introduce myself. My name is Lenny. I have two basset hound sisters – Grace and Lady. Grace was adopted from Guardian Angel Basset Rescue. Oh she tells me all the time how she owes her life to them. I’m a lucky dog - I’ve always had a roof over my head, plenty to eat, lots of love, excellent vet care and never had to worry about being homeless (even when I tried to swallow my mom’s watch). Sometimes I sit in my recliner and wonder how could someone abandon or abuse these little short-legged dogs. Heck, I had a basset nanny when I was a puppy. She took care of me better than my birth mom. Let’s face it, bassets are wonderful.
I’m told it costs a lot of money to help these bassets. A few of my foster cousins were sick with heartworms. I remember this one named Daisy Daisy. She was an older gal, black and white. One time she….Oh sorry I had a blonde moment there for a minute. Where was I? Oh yeah I remember. Every year, GABR takes in a ton of bassets. Each basset is vetted and placed in a caring foster home (like ours). Then the big day comes – the day every homeless dog dreams of – they go to their forever home!
Every year my basset sisters head to the annual GABR Bash/Waddle. Lady hasn’t missed one yet. Instead of complaining why I can’t go with them, I decided to help them with their fundraising. I don’t want them showing up empty-pawed. I’ve already made my donation. Would consider helping them? No amount is too small or too big.
Don’t worry about me when Grace and Lady are partying at the Bash/Waddle. I’ll be stretched out on the sofa, eating Imo’s pizza and watching television.
