With the frenzied economic forecasts, media outlets have been flooded with news coverage, market speculation, and financial advertisements. Turn on any television station or browse the internet and you are likely to find information on the state of the nation, consumer spending, and the job market, as well as advertisements for credit reports, debt consolidation, investment advice, etc. Our children are being exposed to economics, but not in a positive way. As Americans face one of the most challenging economic times of our generation, it is evident that our children must learn to effectively manage money and be equipped with practical, relevant skills in order to succeed in today’s global economy.
Right Now, you can help young people get the financial knowledge that they so desperately need. Due to the state budget impasse, Junior Achievement is in a financial bind and we have been forced to make dramatic adjustments to our operating budget. Unfortunately, we are forced to cut 800 of the 1,800 program requests we currently have. Much to our disappointment, this means that 16,000 students who could have received JA programs will not have an opportunity to do so because of our lack of funding. In a time when financial literacy and work readiness are needed more than ever, this is heartbreaking to us. Your support of Junior Achievement, through either of our Firstgiving events - Save a Class or Cra-Z Rockin Bowl - will help us to reach as many students as possible. Supporting Junior Achievement helps educate the future generation so that our country, our communities, and our families can continue to prosper and live comfortably in the future.
