My personal message:

Thank you for visiting my Police Unity Tour Fundraising page!

On May 10th, of this year, I will be setting out from Portsmouth, Virginia on  another 3-day bicycle trek.  The ride will cover approximately 250 miles and will end up at the National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial in Washington, D.C..

Last year I had the opportunity to attend the Candle Light Vigil at the Law Enforcement Memorial for the first time, it was an experience that I will never forget.  Thousands of people gathered at the memorial to honor members of Law Enforcement who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.  Uniformed Officers representing what appeared to be every local, county, state and federal Law Enforcement Agency from across the country and from around the world joined together and welcomed the families and friends of these fallen heroes.  There were tears, there were hugs, and there was even laughter as many shared fond memories.  Having been witness to this, I have come to realize the importance of the Law Enforcement Memorial more than ever.  I can only imagine how comforting it must have been to those who heard their loved one's names read aloud as they were added to the memorial and for them to know that their loved ones and the sacrifice they made will never be forgotten.

During 2008, 132 sworn members of Law Enforcement from across the United States made that ultimate sacrifice including one of our own.  On Sunday, August 3, 2008, Trooper Shawn Snow was electrocuted while assisting a driver change a flat tire on an antique fire truck in Ogdensburg, New York.  As Trooper Snow and the truck's driver worked on the tire, the fire truck's ladder came in contact with overhead power lines.  Trooper Snow and the truck driver were both killed instantly.  Trooper Snow had served with the New York State Police for 19 years and was assigned to Troop "B".  His wife and children survive him.

To view a current list of Law Enforcement deaths in the United States during 2008, visit the Officer Down Memorial page at http://www.odmp.org/year.php .
