My personal message:

Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support our fundraising efforts.

Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!

Dear Friend of the Institute:

Thank you for your support of young people through the Jean Childs Young institute for Youth Leadership. For over 16 years, we have partnered with 8th-12th grade leaders to address the concerns of youth in the metro Atlanta area. The financial crisis of our country will likely impact the grants of our major funders. During these harsh economic times, we need the support of individuals like you more than ever. Won’t you please send a contribution to us as soon as you can?
Our youth partners are non-traditional leaders.   Many of them don’t know they are leaders until they get involved. They come to us after school because they want to make a difference for all youth. All of our programs are youth led- -- they are planned and facilitated by our youth partners.
We are so proud of the youth that have worked with us. Tim, a senior at Frederick Douglass High School, stated “I joined the Institute to help youth out in the community and to make a change in my neighborhood. I have recruited new youth members by advertising at my school. The Institute has provided me with knowledge about topics that I didn’t know about.  This is the place where you can excel in leadership skills, meet new people and where you can have an open discussion on issues that are happening in our communities.”
Through our Leadership Training Program, we offered 25 activities from professionals that teach the skills young people need to advocate for themselves and others…skills like meeting facilitation, public speaking, organizational financials, media communications, learning the rules of running your own board meeting, information on voting, healthy eating habits, and other informative trainings.
Our young male partners held a Male Youth Mentoring Conference learning how to be non-violent at home and at school and exploring careers in the entertainment industry.
Our 4th Annual Teen Girls Conference, “I am a Woman, I am a Leader, I Know Where My Voice Belongs” was a great success.   Over one hundred young women explored career options, learned ways to speak up for themselves and self defense strategies. We were overjoyed that our male members, especially Tim, understood the value of planning and volunteering at this event to empower young women.
During our Youth Empowerment Forum, one hundred teens engaged in workshops on violence at home, drugs and voting rights. Ambassador Andrew Young opened the Forum helping the teens understand the role that youth can play in making a difference in the world.
With your generous donation of as little as $50, we can continue to offer a space and the opportunity for teens to learn and practice leadership outside of school. Our programs are free to any teenagers who commit to working on behalf of all metro Atlanta youth to make a change in our communities. Your contribution will help us provide after school snacks, MARTA transportation to and from our office, leadership training, conferences, and the interaction of youth from different schools and backgrounds. Visit our website at www.JCYInstitute.org to learn more or to donate online or call (404) 527-7426.
We believe, as Jean Childs Young believed, “If we are to solve our social problems, children and youth must play a pivotal role in the process.” There will be cut-backs from all directions. Our youth need your support now.
Sincerely,
Andrea R. Chambers
Executive Director
