Dear Friend,
I'm writing to let you know of a really easy way to help homeless children and adults.
In February 2007, my friend Saniel Bonder (Live a Deeply HEART-Awakened Life) started a little project he calls Sit and Serve. It's very simple. Saniel offers a free meditation at my yoga studio (BodyWorks in Petaluma, CA) and asks people to make a love offering that I pass on to one of my favorite nonprofit organizations, COTS, which does a fabulous job of helping homeless children and adults. I donate the use of the space and am happy to do so!.
In a little over a year we've raised over $3,000 this way! This money goes a long way--for instance, it will provide 9 homeless kids with safe shelter, food and health assessments for a full month. It will provide about 3,000 hot lunches. A little goes a long way when you're helping people who start with nothing.
I believe that dedicating our meditation to this service supports the homeless people in a profound way in addition to the funding, and likewise supports our own development.
Here are some easy ways that you, too, can participate:
--When you meditate alone, you can tune in to Sit and Serve, dedicate your meditation to supporting the homeless children and adults and COTS, and contribute financially via this webpage in whatever amount you want. For your convenience, you can aggregate your gifts and enter them in this website every couple of weeks.
--You can host meditations in your home, yoga studios, etc. as I have, and give the participants the opportunity to make love offerings, which you then can donate to COTS via this website.
--You can even develop your own website like this one. It's very easy. You can then share it with friends like I have shared this with you. If you do this, please use the "Sit and Serve" option when you get to that place on the menu.
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts for COTS.
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
With love,
Jean
