Our personal message:

Please help with a donation of any size in memory of Justice.

Justice touched many lives, and is still remembered fondly by all that had contact with him. Your donation will help German Shepherds that are in need of food, shelter, and medical care. Without your help, dogs like Justice may never have a chance to live a long and happy life with loving owners.

The story of Justice:

Justice was rescued from an owner that had been abusing him at an early age. He had been found taped together to another female Shepherd in an attempt to get the two dogs to mate. He was under weight and had nearly scrapped off all his nails from trying to scratch his way through the fenced in yard he was in.

I adopted Justice shortly after he was taken by animal control and given medical care for his issues. Justice was a handsome dog of 6 months old and full of energy, when I picked him up. Due to his abusers, he was very fearful of certain people, especially men, but yet he bonded quickly with me and I to him, and soon was shadowing me in everything I did. He loved the snow, and swimming, and especially loved to jump clear over the gate into the back of my truck to go on rides. He went everywhere with me, but was still slightly afraid of some people.

My family had a very difficult time getting Justice to trust them, especially my father. My fataher was a dog lover and was trying every trick in the book to gain trust with Justice and would sneek food to him under the table all the time, taking him for walks and car rides, hoping Justice would bond with him. All of my friends and family would be very kind and gentle with Justice to help him build trust with strangers. With all the attempts and commitment Justice still struggled to adapt to strangers and men in the first year until an amazing event took place, that is hard to ever forget.

On a beautiful sunny spring day in Maine while traveling to our summer house with my parents, (I was headed up the next day) At a local store Justice suddenly and unexpectedly jumped from the back window of the car and dissappeared into the town of Waterville. I was devastated when i received the news but confident that I would quickly find a German Shepherd wandering in a small town such as Waterville. I quickly found out that finding Justice was not going to be an easy task, especially since i lived over two hours away. Boy was i wrong.

To make a long story short, we finally tracking Justice to a small wooded area near town after a month of searching by towns people, the local dog catcher, and a lot of fantastic volunteers. Unfortunately, Justice was ever more fearful of people so it took another two months to figure out a way to catch this fearful confused dog. Everyday the dog catcher would leave food for him and give him water in the field where he was living.

After repeated attempts to coax Justice to humans, catch him in crates, lure him with food and treats, track him with his girlfriend Sasha (sisters female german shepherd), and traquilize with pills in his food to calm him, we were still no closer to catching him. Every weekend I would go home frustrated and saddened that i could come within 50 yards of my dog but he would not come to me. At the same time the search for Justice had become the talk around town, and in the newspapers. "Justice still on the lamb", "Fugitive Dog still missing".

Then as suddenly as he disappeared, a miracle happend. Unknown to me the fine people that worked in the business near the area he was living in were feed him everyday with scraps from their personal lunches, and finally lead him close enough to gain trust in humans again. They convinced Justice to come into their place of business by giving him all of things Burger King hamburgers. when inside Justice quickly warmed to all the employees and was friendly with everyone including the males. No longer was Justice afraid of anyone or anything. His "vacation" as we came to call it, had rid Justice of all his fears and doubts. The newspapers wrote stories, the tv had converage. it was crazy. Justice was home.

Over the next ten years Justice had many other adventures and challenges including another loving family, but through it all remained a wonderful and loving dog and companion to children, other dogs, my family and friends. Justice loved everyone and in turn everyone loved him back.
